Over two days, approximately 400 participants, including 300 diaspora members and 100 distinguished guests, Kurdish figures, and activists, came together. Attendees represented all parts of Kurdistan and Kurdish communities worldwide, including those from the former Soviet Union states.
Recognized as the largest Kurdish lobbying effort in history, the Congress brought together hundreds of organizations to collaborate under the Kurdistani Diaspora Confederation. It emphasized unity, shared identity, and a collective vision for advancing Kurdish interests on a global scale.
Day 1: Opening Ceremony and Organizational Discussions
The Congress opened with the singing of the Kurdish national anthem, followed by a moment of silence to honor Kurdistan’s martyrs. Key speeches included:
• President Masoud Barzani, whose opening remarks, read by Mr. Shifa Barzani, emphasized the importance of Kurdish unity and international advocacy.
• Dr. Ismail Kemal, the outgoing diaspora president, who reflected on the achievements and challenges faced during his term.
• Mr. Shifa Barzani, General Supervisor of the Kurdistani Federation, who highlighted the future direction and solidarity of the Kurdish diaspora.
Additional Speeches and Dialogues
Several Kurdish figures delivered impactful speeches addressing various aspects of the Kurdish cause, shared struggles, and aspirations of the diaspora. Speeches were delivered in different Kurdish dialects, reflecting the diversity and richness of Kurdish culture.
Organizational discussions dominated the first day, with working groups focusing on topics such as women’s roles, youth involvement, bylaw amendments, and literary contributions. Findings and proposals were presented, contributing to updates to the Confederation’s charter, which were later discussed and successfully passed.

Two representatives (one man and one woman) were chosen from each part of Kurdistan, along with an additional representative from the former Soviet Union states.
