The Call for Kurdish Unity and Sovereignty

At this crucial moment in our history, we, as Kurds, face a significant choice: to unite as one people working toward a sovereign state in Kurdistan or to remain divided by political parties. These divisions have weakened us, making it easier for others to exploit our differences and prevent us from achieving our true potential as a nation. Many of our political parties, rather than uniting us, have become too focused on their internal goals. They often operate like small princedoms, concerned more with their own power than with the broader vision of a united Kurdish nation. This has not only stalled our progress but has also threatened our future as a people. The issue is no longer just about political rivalry—it’s about the larger goal of a sovereign Kurdish state. What we need now is a shift in focus. Our leaders should be competing to guide a national Kurdish state, not getting lost in party divisions. We must reject the idea that any part of Kurdish land can belong to a specific party rather than to the Kurdish people as a whole. Any political leader or party that fails to sacrifice their local or party interests for the greater goal of a unified Kurdish state will find themselves without a place in the future when the Kurdish people assume a national identity. A new way of thinking is necessary, one that prioritizes the Kurdish nation as a whole. We need leadership that represents all Kurds, not just their specific groups. Such leaders would work toward the establishment of a sovereign state, where Kurds are united and recognized by the world. The current path of division isn’t leading us to where we need to go. But this doesn’t mean we should discard our political parties. Instead, they should be encouraged to focus on the bigger picture—the creation of a strong, united, and sovereign Kurdish state. Our politicians should be striving to lead this national state, rather than consuming their potential in internal conflicts. Our strength lies in unity, and our goal should be clear: a sovereign Kurdish state in Kurdistan. Now more than ever, we need to come together, respect our differences, and work toward a future where we stand united as one nation, recognized and respected on the global stage.

This is completely right and that’s why our current political leaders are not working for this goal because it will not keep them in power. Best regards.

  2. Thank you very much brez Dr Abdulbaghi. I strongly believe we are at an age where we have to give up our old identities and assume a national identity. We have to sacrifice the old ways to be reborn. To be a nation.
